Two matches, two 2:2 draws. Serbia drew with Sweden in the Open and Türkiye in the Women’s section in round six of the Samarkand Olympiad, played on September 21. Aleksandar Inđić, Teodora Injac and Alina Bivol scored wins, but neither Serbian team secured both match points.
Both teams head into the rest day with nine match points: four wins, one draw and one loss. The Open team has 15/24 board points, and the women 17/24.
Open: Inđić’s win secures a drawn match
Aleksandar Inđić beat Jung Min Seo with White on board two. It was Serbia’s only full point against Sweden: Alexey Sarana and Alexandr Predke drew with Black, while Velimir Ivić lost to Edvin Trost. Bojan Maksimović rested.
Inđić’s game, which ended after his 75th move, was the longest of the eight games played by Serbia’s teams in this round. His win over the Swedish international master balanced the decisive results, leaving the teams with one match point each.
Serbia was higher rated on every board, so 2:2 brings some disappointment. Still, two draws with Black and Inđić’s full point helped the team avoid a second match defeat.

Women: Injac and Bivol win, all four games decisive
The Women’s match produced the same team score through a very different distribution of points: all four games were decisive. Türkiye replied with wins on boards three and four, as Gulenay Aydin beat Elif Mehmed and Ceren Tirpan defeated Sofija Pogorelskih. Jovana Srdanović sat out the round.
Two wins on the top boards were not enough for a team victory. Following the defeat to Azerbaijan, Serbia earned one match point and reaches the break with the same match record as the Open team. Elif, who began with four straight wins, now has 4/6.
