Another day, another two wins for Serbia. In round two of the Olympiad, played on September 17, the Open team beat Turkmenistan 3:1 and the women defeated Scotland 4:0. Both teams have a maximum four match points, with 6½/8 board points in the Open and 8/8 in the Women’s event.
Open: two wins with White, two draws with Black
Alexey Sarana and Velimir Ivić scored the wins; Alexandr Predke and Bojan Maksimović drew. The convincing score conceals a less straightforward match on some boards: the Serbian Chess Federation reports that Predke had to defend before securing a repetition, while Ivić’s win came in a long endgame. Sarana now has 2/2. This was Ivić’s first win after his opening draw, while Predke began his Samarkand campaign with half a point. Aleksandar Inđić rested for this round.
