This week we move from team lists to following the games. The 46th Chess Olympiad opens on Tuesday, September 15, with its first five rounds running Wednesday to Sunday. Each starts at noon in Serbia (CEST), or 3pm in Samarkand. Lunch may involve checking four boards at once. Official schedule

David Kaufman won the Subotica Trophy ahead of Miša Pap and Novak Čabarkapa. Around 250 players gathered at the National Theatre for nine rounds. We put the event in the diary last week; it is good to see so many people at the boards. Serbian Chess Federation report
At the Olympiad for People with Disabilities, Serbia beat Vietnam 3:1 in round one and lost to Cuba 1:3 in round two. The event runs until September 17. Our featured game is Le Van Viet - Danko Bokan from round one. Bokan played the Schliemann Gambit with Black and finished with 36...Rxh2+, after which White resigned. Play through the preparation: the rooks gradually reach the kingside before the final capture. The moves come from FIDE’s official PGN publication.
Serbia’s Open team prepared in Vrnjačka Banja: Sarana, Predke, Inđić, Ivić and Maksimović, with coach Ivan Ivanišević and assistant coach Miloš Perunović. Younger players had a team encounter of their own: Banja Luka hosted the first under-14 match between Serbia and Republika Srpska, across eight boards. The federation’s September 12 report covers the meeting without giving a final score. Youth team match
Round eight of the Vojvodina League, Bačka - Subotica, is scheduled for Sunday, September 20. Home fixtures for Žaki Jožef, Hajduk Kula and Penzioner-Šah Art use a Saturday 4pm slot, so check the host club’s notice for your match. League regulations

The daily selection features Sarana, Perunović, Kovačević and Gligorić, Karaklajić, Planinc, Vidmar, then Gligorić again. Each game comes with a puzzle from its actual continuation. These are classics selected for the week, without claiming they were played on the day they appear. Games and puzzles
Around 250 players competed at the National Theatre. After nine rounds, international master David Kaufman took the trophy, with grandmaster Miša Pap and international master Novak Čabarkapa completing the podium. Last week we previewed the event; now we have the names of its leading finishers.

On September 9, the federation reported on Sarana, Predke, Inđić, Ivić and Maksimović preparing in Vrnjačka Banja. Coach Ivan Ivanišević is joined by assistant coach Miloš Perunović. The team’s first competitive test comes on September 16.
